The narrow site was occupied by an unattractive garage built in the 1980s, and is sandwiched in between two large Victorian detached houses, on a narrow road characterised by the variety of vernacular styles which have evolved over the last 150 years.
We were asked by the client to create a design for a contemporary family home, making the most of the long plot with mature trees both to the front and rear.
Long views from front to back garden and a double height internal courtyard have been used to create dramatic spaces on this constrained site.
The street elevation, with simple soldier course brick detailing and large windows, adds to the varied residential street scene in the Conservation Area.
