Concept
Portslade, Sussex
The site is located in a semi-industrial area of Portslade, very close to the sea-front. The site includes a Victorian former Salvation Army church hall.
We were appointed by the client to explore designs for ancillary facilities to a new recording studio housed in the former church hall.
The new building includes sound and video editing suites, office space and a top floor residential short stay unit for clients wishing to book the music facilities for several days at a time.
The client told us he was inspired by the ‘seaside’ and the industrial character of the immediate area. The new building has a three storey glazed link connecting it to the church hall, and providing an animated elevation to the street. From the top floor there are views accross the site towards the sea.
The design of the building is inspired by the containers dominating the sea-front in Portslade.
